2. How consumers opt in

Consumers do not sign up for SMS on a public web form. SMS enrollment is a one-to-one, invitation-based step that happens after a consumer has spoken with our firm and before their client-portal account is created. The flow is:

An attorney or paralegal at Los Angeles Lawyer Corp enters the consumer's name, email, and mobile number into our internal system after direct contact with the consumer.
The system generates a private invitation link (https://lalawyerportal.com/invite/<token>) and sends it to the consumer by email and/or SMS.
The consumer clicks the invitation link and lands on the portal activation page.
Before an account can be created, the consumer must actively check three boxes on that page:
- Terms of Service (required)
- Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy (required)
- SMS opt-in (optional) — this box is unchecked by default and is not a condition of receiving legal services or of using the portal.
The consumer sets a password and clicks "Activate portal". Only then is the account created and, if the SMS box was checked, the mobile number enrolled in the SMS program.

3. Exact opt-in language shown at the point of consent

The following language is displayed next to the SMS opt-in checkbox on the invitation activation page, with the consumer's own mobile number rendered inline:

"I agree to receive text messages from Los Angeles Lawyer Corp at the mobile number on file (shown above) about my case, appointments, documents, and account. Message frequency varies (typically 2–10 messages per month). Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time; reply HELP for help. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of retaining Los Angeles Lawyer Corp's legal services or of using the client portal. See our SMS Terms and Privacy Policy."

The call-to-action button beneath the checkboxes is labeled "Activate portal". The consumer must click this button after checking the SMS opt-in box for SMS enrollment to occur.

4. What we record as proof of consent

Every SMS opt-in is stored in the consumer's client record with the following evidence:

Consumer's full legal name
Mobile number opted in (E.164 format)
Exact opt-in language version shown
UTC timestamp of the checkbox event and portal activation
IP address and user-agent at the moment of consent
Language of the interface at the moment of consent
An immutable audit-log entry (client.consent_recorded) written server-side

Consent records are retained for at least the applicable client-file retention period under California Rules of Professional Conduct (see our Privacy Policy).

6. Opt-out (STOP)

Consumers may cancel at any time by replying STOP to any message from us. After a STOP is received, a single confirmation message is sent and no further SMS messages are delivered unless the consumer re-enrolls. Opting out of SMS does not opt the consumer out of email or portal notifications and does not end the attorney–client relationship.

7. Data sharing

Los Angeles Lawyer Corp does not sell, rent, share, or otherwise disclose mobile numbers or SMS consent to third parties for their own marketing purposes. Mobile numbers are shared only with our SMS delivery vendor (Twilio Inc.) strictly to transmit the messages described above, under a written contract that limits Twilio's use of the data to providing the service to us. This restriction is also stated in our Privacy Policy.

8. Compliance

This program is operated consistent with the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act (47 U.S.C. § 227), the FCC's implementing rules (47 C.F.R. § 64.1200), the CTIA Messaging Principles and Best Practices, and California Business & Professions Code § 17538.41.
