Privacy Policy

Los Angeles Lawyer Corp ("Firm", "we", "us", or "our") operates the secure client portal and communication platform (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act ("CCPA/CPRA"), and other applicable U.S. laws.

1. Information we collect

• Identifiers: name, email, phone number, mailing address, government identifiers you upload for intake.
• Case information: matter type, facts you share, documents, messages, tasks, and appointment details.
• Authentication data: hashed passwords, session tokens, security events.
• Technical data: IP address, browser and device information, timestamps, and audit logs of your actions in the Service.
• Communications consent records: when and how you agreed to SMS messages, email, or portal notifications, including the IP address and browser used at the time of consent.

2. How we use information

• To provide legal services under an existing or prospective attorney–client relationship.
• To authenticate you and secure your account.
• To send transactional messages about your matter (case updates, document requests, appointments, invoices).
• To comply with our professional, ethical, tax, and regulatory obligations under California and federal law.
• To detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, or unauthorized access.

We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use it for any purpose materially different from the purposes stated here without your consent.

3. Attorney–client privilege and confidentiality

Communications transmitted through the Service in the course of an attorney–client relationship are treated as confidential and, where applicable, protected by attorney–client privilege and the attorney work-product doctrine under California Evidence Code §§ 950–962 and California Rules of Professional Conduct 1.6. The existence of this Service does not by itself create an attorney–client relationship; a written engagement agreement is required.

4. Disclosure to third parties

We disclose information only to: (a) our attorneys and staff who need it to provide legal services; (b) service providers acting on our behalf under written contracts limiting their use of the information (hosting, database, email, SMS delivery, e-signature); (c) courts, opposing counsel, experts, or agencies when required for your matter or by law; and (d) authorities in response to lawful process or to protect rights and safety.

5. Data retention

We retain client files consistent with California Rules of Professional Conduct and Los Angeles County Bar Association guidance — generally at least five (5) years after the closing of a matter, and longer for minors, trust accounts, and matters where a longer retention period is required by law.

6. Security

The Service uses encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest for stored documents, role-based access control, row-level security, and audit logging. No system is perfectly secure; you agree to notify us promptly at privacy@lalawyercorp.com if you believe your account has been compromised.

7. Your California privacy rights

Subject to legal and ethical exceptions, California residents have the right to: know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect; access a copy of that information; request correction of inaccurate information; request deletion; and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Some information (for example, client files subject to retention rules or work product) may be exempt from deletion. To exercise these rights, email privacy@lalawyercorp.com from the address on file.

8. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children except at the direction of a parent, guardian, or guardian ad litem in the course of representation.

9. Changes

We may update this Policy. Material changes will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date and, where required, notified to you through the Service.
